Dr. Amanda Termuhlen is Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and former Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Termuhlen earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed her pediatric oncology training at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center. She served as a faculty member and leader in three medical schools: The Ohio State University, the University of Southern California and the University of Minnesota. Throughout her career, she has been an active clinician, administrative leader, clinical investigator, and mentor. Dr. Termuhlen is a graduate of Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine fellowship (ELAM), an intensive leadership program that prepares leaders for impactful roles in academic medicine and healthcare systems. She currently serves on the ELAM leadership team. Dr. Termuhlen has won national awards for mentoring from the Children’s Oncology Group, where she served on the NHL and AYA Steering Committees, and for contributions to faculty affairs from the American Association of Medical Colleges Group on Faculty Affairs (the Carole J Bland Phronesis Award).
Dr. Termuhlen is a Board Certified Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist with clinical expertise in rare pediatric Non Hodgkin lymphoma, pediatric blood and marrow transplantation, and cancer survivorship. Dr. Termuhlen is an International Coaching Federation certified coach (ACC).

Ezgi Tiryaki, MD, PCC, FAAN is a professional certified coach and physician leader who brings a neuroscience-informed, developmental approach to leadership growth. She partners with individuals and groups to expand leadership capacity, navigate complexity, and turn insight into action. A professor of neurology, Dr. Tiryaki is passionate about group coaching as a way to deepen self-awareness, build community, and accelerate lasting professional development.

Dr. Erek J. Ostrowski is a leadership and executive coach, educator, and program designer with over 25 years of experience helping leaders navigate complexity, change, and growth. He serves as faculty chair of the Leadership & Organizational Coaching (LOC) master’s concentration at the University of Pennsylvania and is founder of Verve Coaching. Dr. Ostrowski holds a PhD in Organizational Development and Change, is an Oxford Brookes–certified coach supervisor, and is widely recognized for his scholarship, innovation, and instruction in group coaching across healthcare, finance, entrepreneurial leadership, and other dynamic organizational contexts.

Christine Arenson, MD

Heather Brod, MA is an executive coach, consultant, facilitator, speaker, and author with deep experience in higher education, healthcare, and professional services. As founder of Heather Brod LLC, she supports individuals, teams, and organizations through coaching, leadership development, and strategy consulting. Her work helps clients identify what sets them apart—and apply it in ways that lead to meaningful impact and lasting results.
She has led engaging sessions on organizational culture, growth mindset, foundational leadership skills, promotion and advancement, and high-stakes communication, including Crucial Conversations.
Her book, The Insider’s Pocket Guide to Navigating a Faculty Career in Academic Medicine (Springer, 2024), offers a coaching-based approach to professional development that helps faculty members create fulfilling, sustainable careers aligned with institutional objectives.
Heather previously led organizational and talent development efforts at Ohio State University’s College of Medicine and co-founded the Midwest Collaborative for Faculty Affairs and Development (MCFAD). She is a recipient of Ohio State’s 2019 Glass Breaker Award and a past president of the Columbus Chapter of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association.
She is a certified executive coach through the Hudson Institute of Coaching and holds a PCC credential from the International Coaching Federation. Heather has called Columbus, Ohio, home for 25 years.

Ann J. Brown MD, MHS is Professor Emerita and Vice Dean for Faculty Emerita, Duke University School of Medicine and currently a professional coach. With over two decades of leadership at the Duke School of Medicine, Dr. Brown brings a rare depth of experience to her coaching practice—rooted in a career dedicated to faculty thriving. Her tenure included multiple institutional leadership roles, culminating in a decade as Vice Dean for Faculty. In that role, she oversaw faculty leadership development, research mentoring initiatives, and the Office of Faculty Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure. She also led efforts to resolve complex faculty conflicts, navigating high-stakes interpersonal and organizational dynamics with discretion and clarity. Her coaching is informed by this lived expertise—strategic, empathetic, and grounded in the realities of academic medicine.
She speaks nationally on the topic of managing difficult conversations. She is on the faculty of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine and Executive Leadership in Healthcare (ELAM/ELH) fellowships, sister programs designed to hone leadership skills for senior faculty in academic health care. In 2019, she was awarded the prestigious Carole J Bland Phronesis Award by her colleagues in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Faculty Affairs. This honor recognized her long contributions to faculty development “through dedicated and selfless promotion of faculty vitality”.
She grew up in Ann Arbor MI, received her BA from Mount Holyoke College and her MD from Stanford University Medical School. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and her Endocrine fellowship at Duke University.

Dr. An Ly Church is an Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She is a Radiologist who specializes in Breast Cancer detection and diagnosis. She collaborates with researchers to improve breast cancer detection using MRI and is the lead site Radiologist for a multi-center national clinical drug trial. As the Breast Imaging Fellowship program director, her goal is to help all patients receive top-notch radiological care, regardless of their location—urban, rural, stateside, international. In addition, she created the Mentoring Pathways Leadership Program for faculty in 2024, promoting equity minded mentorship at the University of Minnesota. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her adult children, strengthening friendships, and learning to exercise!

Dr. Jessie Harvey is an Associate Professor in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She completed medical school, an Internal Medicine residency including a chief resident year, and a Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship all at UMMC. She served as the associate program director for the Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship program from 2018-2021 and became the program director in July of 2021. She is the director of the medical intensive care unit. She has a special interest in point-of-care ultrasound and completed the critical care point-of-care ultrasound certification through the American College of Chest Physicians. She is also very passionate about medical education and is actively involved in the education of medical students, residents and fellows. Currently, she serves on the Training and Transitions Committee through CHEST.

Jenny Mladenovic, MD, MBA, MACP has more than 40 years of experience in academic medicine and leadership. She retired as Executive Vice President and Provost at Oregon Health & Science University, where, in addition to the oversight of schools, her portfolio included research, strategic planning, and core university administration. She previously served as Senior Associate Dean at two medical schools and as Chair and Chief of Medicine. Dr. Mladenovic later led FAIMER and founded the Center for Women in Academic Medicine and Science (CWAMS) and the Gender Equity in Academic Medicine and Science Alliance (GEMS Alliance).

Dr. Durga Singer is the Valerie Castle Opipari M.D. Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan. As a physician scientist her research program focuses on understanding the impact of dietary obesity on macrophage production and activation in males and females with a goal of understanding adolescent risk for cardiometabolic disease. With a passion for supporting the careers of those in medicine and biomedical science she has worked as a faculty advisor in the office of faculty development and now as Assistant Dean for Tenure Track Faculty supporting faculty careers from onboarding, promotion to retirement with a goal of enhancing faculty impact.

Dr. Kim Skarupski is the Associate Vice Provost for Leadership Development in the Office of Faculty Affairs at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), in Galveston, TX. She is also a Professor of Medicine (Internal Medicine – Geriatrics) in the John Sealy School of Medicine, Professor of Epidemiology in the School of Public and Population Health, and holds The Dr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Painter Distinguished Professorship in Teaching Excellence at UTMB.
Dr. Skarupski is an internationally-recognized leader in faculty development and faculty affairs. She built, facilitated, and evaluated numerous professional and career development programs for faculty in academic health systems. She published numerous peer-reviewed articles, chapters, and books, including The Insider’s Guide to Navigating a Career in Academic Medicine (with co-author Ms. Heather Brod). Dr. Skarupski created (2018) and hosts the weekly Faculty Factory podcast. The Faculty Factory is an international forum and resource for faculty in academic health systems, including a Youtube channel and free Faculty Factory e-books (The Academic Medicine Starter Kit; Habits and Hacks from Hopkins (H3); and Snippets for Success: An eBook Brought to You by the Faculty Factory Community).
Dr. Skarupski is a gerontologist, epidemiologist, and program evaluator using data from large-scale epidemiologic studies to examine disparities in quality of life in this population, as well as the contribution of various social and psychological determinants of quality of life in older age. Most recently, she has merged her gerontologic and faculty development interests exploring advanced–career faculty members’: career needs; retirement expectations and experiences; and caregiving roles. Dr. Skarupski is a certified professional coach through the College of Executive Coaching.

Dr. Patrick O. Smith is a nationally respected leader in academic medicine with over three decades of experience advancing faculty development, leadership, and organizational culture. As Chief Faculty Affairs Officer at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), he oversees strategic faculty initiatives across six schools and serves as a trusted advisor to deans, department chairs, and senior administrators.
Dr. Smith is the architect of the LEADER Program (Leadership Excellence in Academia through Development, Education, and Resources), a nationally recognized mentoring initiative that has supported over 60 academic and executive leaders in their leadership transitions. He has led more than 50 executive and academic searches and has consulted with over 15 academic health centers on faculty affairs, leadership onboarding, and institutional culture.
His work integrates evidence-based approaches to faculty vitality, professionalism, and resilience, including the development of the University Professionalism Collaborative, Faculty Focus, and Resilience in Stressful Events Program. A frequent invited speaker at institutions such as Columbia, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt, Dr. Smith brings deep expertise in strategic planning, conflict resolution, and talent optimization.
Dr. Smith is a past chair of the AAMC Group on Faculty Affairs Steering Committee and recipient of the Carole J. Bland Phronesis Award, recognizing his enduring contributions to faculty leadership and development.

Nancy D. Spector, MD, is a Professor of Pediatrics and serves at the Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCOM) as Executive Director of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) program, a part-time year-long, national leadership fellowship program for faculty in academic medicine, dentistry, public health, and pharmacy and for leaders in hospital and health care systems. She also serves as Senior Vice Dean for Faculty, the Betty A. Cohen Chair in Women’s Health, and Executive Director of the Lynn Yeakel Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at DUCOM.
Dr. Spector’s contributions to graduate medical education and academic medicine are in leadership skills development, professional development, equity, mentoring and sponsorship, and curriculum development and implementation. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2023 Elizabeth Blackwell Medal, granted by the American Medical Women’s Association; the 2025 Phyllis Marciano, MD, Woman in Medicine Award, granted by Drexel College of Medicine; and the 2025 Alumni Distinguished Service Award, granted by the UMass Chan Medical School Alumni Board to recognize an alumnus/a who has made a significant impact in their field.
Dr. Spector is a graduate of Brown University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She completed training in pediatrics, including chief residency, at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.

Dr. Bevan Yueh is the Chief Physician Executive for University of Iowa Health Care. He was formerly the CEO for University of Minnesota Physicians and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs for the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is the President of the American Head & Neck Society and Past President of the Association of American Departments of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery.
